Claire Potié painter
I didn’t follow the traditional path of artists. Trained as a scientist, I spent many years in a rational world before finding in painting a space for freedom and expression. This shift toward art wasn’t accidental: it answered a deep need to translate emotions and sensations that words don’t always convey.
My work revolves around colour, which to me is a universal language capable of conveying immediate emotion. Through my canvases, I explore light, contrasts and nuances in an attempt to create atmospheres that invite contemplation.
I paint landscapes, scenes of life, portraits and still lifes.
Nature and wide open spaces are inevitably a source of inspiration — I grew up in Canada — but encounters and more intimate ambiences can just as well influence my compositions.
I mainly work with oil paint, a technique I love for its richness and depth. I appreciate the time this medium requires, allowing colour to gradually unfold and emotion to settle in.
I have devoted myself full-time to my artistic practice since late 2024.
